Come join your brothers from Vancouver Men in Leather for Introduction to Rope Bondage a new series of educational evenings! This in-person event is a 2 part introductory series intended for guys who are new to rope bondage and assumes no prior experience.
Individuals or couples may sign up for $30 each for non-members, and current VML members can sign up for $20, however if you sign up without a partner, you must be willing to both tie and be tied with an assigned partner. If you are a VML member or sign up in order to get the discount, reply to this message with the name/email you’ve used to sign up, and we will get back to you ASAP with a discount code to get the member’s price.
During this introductory series, you will learn: single column tie, double column tie, half hitch, and how to tie connectively with your partner. Loaner ropes can be provided and no special equipment is required. Each class runs from 6pm to 9pm at in a work/live shared space in Mount Pleasant (address will be shared via Eventbrite). The folks who run the venue have pet ferrets on site, and those with allergies should be aware.
Note: Part 1 is a Prerequisite of Part 2. If you have not attended Part 1, you will not be permitted to attend Part 2 and we will not be offering refunds due to an unwillingness to follow directions. No exceptions.
Those who participate in both parts 1 and 2 of this series will be welcomed into an introductory shibari series with details to be announced.
A portion of all ticket sales will be used to assist those who otherwise would not be able to afford education in rope bondage the opportunity to do so.
If you purchase tickets, please be prepared to attend. Due to limited space, we will not be offering refunds for this paid event, as it would not be fair to individuals who do not get to attend if we sell out but cannot fill up the space. If you are unable to attend, you will be able to transfer your registration to another member.
Bio of JonTheRigger:
“In the spring of 2019, Vancouver Men in Leather organised a performance of Shibari rope bondage, demonstrated by the proprietors of the local Shibari school. I was so intrigued and inspired by the rope model’s response, and the fluidity of the rope handling, that I decided to join the rope community and learn Shibari. In August 2019, I began taking lessons at The Space 2.
Even though the pandemic brought a halt to many things, including The Space 2, I was able to continue learning Shibari with my mentors, @kindred.ties and @fuckyourvanilla throughout the pandemic
Even with four years of practising and perfecting my skills in Shibari rope bondage, I still feel like a beginner within the complex Shibari system — it seems like the more I learn, the more there is to learn.
I am an out gay Asian male Shibari top/rigger, working towards better representation people of colour especially in the Shibari rope bondage community. Towards achieving that goal locally and globally, I became the first gay Asian top/rigger and sub team duo team to perform at the Folsom Street Fair 2023 in San Francisco.
My goal with Shibari rope bondage is also to ensure a meaningful and connective experience between my tying partner and myself. And my ultimate goal is to create a space for men tying men in Vancouver!”
